A Special Sports and Leisure Grant for Children from Low-Income Households for the 2020-2021 School Year.
Children born between 2005 and 2014 and are living in lower-income households are entitled to special sports and leisure grants that come in addition to the traditional sports and leisure grants offered for the 2020-2021 school year. It is not permitted to use sports and leisure grants to pay for instruments, equipment, clothing or travel.
These are specific and temporary measures to respond to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic according to the Supplementary Budget for 2020 and Act no. 26/2020. These grants are provided by the municipality on the basis of Chapter VI of the Municipal Social Services Act no. 40/1991.
Children born between 2005 and 2014 and living in a home where the total household income was on average less than ISK 740,000 per month during the period of March to July 2020 are eligible for the grant. The grant is ISK 45,000. per child.
To apply for the grant, you must first visit www.island.is and see whether the household qualifies according to the above income criteria. If you have a claim, you must visit the municipality residents’ portal at www.hornafjordur.is, and apply for the special sports and leisure grant for the 2020/2021 school year. A PDF copy to confirm the grant application claim can be found at island.is and a receipt stating the cost of the sport or leisure activity must be attached to the application sent through the residents’ portal.
